Riaz Karamali is a partner in the  Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, an international law firm with approximately 700 lawyers in 20 offices around the world.  He is a counselor and deal-maker who assists clients with negotiating and closing domestic and international venture finance, private equity, M&A and technology transactions.  He has recent extensive experience representing investors and startups in financing block-chain enabled businesses, including with respect to private token pre-sales and initial coin offerings.

 Riaz has worked with hundreds of startup and emerging companies, guiding them from their pre-founding stages through their seed and venture capital financing rounds, significant commercial contracts and strategic alliances to their ultimate exit transactions. He has acted as outside general counsel to many such privately held companies in a wide range of industries, including the blockchain/cryptocurrency, video game, SaaS, FinTech, food tech, biotechnology, semiconductor, energy and medical device sectors. Riaz also regularly represents investors in such companies.  Riaz has handled cross-border transactions involving numerous countries including Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, the Cayman Islands, China, Dubai, Egypt, France, Germany, Honduras, India, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Pakistan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland and Vietnam.

 Riaz received his law degree from the Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and his bachelor's degree from Rice University.  Riaz has served on the Board of Directors of OPEN Silicon Valley and OPEN Global, and is currently on the Board of Directors of the American Pakistan Foundation.
